Searching VIN numbers?! Need Help!

Just picked up a 1973 bus.. Wanted to do a vin check on it but have no idea how or if you can online. They all say "invalid vin" if anyone knows a website to get history on these if possible
Any Idea , Suggestions would be appreciated,
